WW II Navy Photos

World War Two is a passion of mine and will probably evolve
into a new website at the first of the year. I will be putting the actors
photos up along with the real photos of our heroes. Shortly I will have
General George Smith Patton, Jr. and George C. Scott as played in the
movie Patton.

For the movie
buffs out there I guess your thinking your seeing the real faces
of some of the people in the movie Midway.
You would be
right all of them had either major or minor rolls in the movie.
The first question would be where is Captain Matt Garth played by
Charlton
Heston? He and his son are fictional characters. I'll put him up
shortly but there's an example of why this will either lead to a
whole new website or just be a few more pictures to look at.
As
much as I love the movie there are numerous mistakes. A few
examples would be,
-
The
movie shows pilots flying SB2C "Helldiver" dive
bombers, such as the one Matt Garth flies immediately before
crashing into the end of the flight deck.
The SB2C "Helldiver" did not enter service until
toward the end of the war and was not available during the
Battle of Midway.
-
In
the second air attack on Yorktown, the movie shows two
kamikazes hitting the aircraft carrier. There were no kamikaze
attacks in this battle.
Yorktown was only hit by two torpedoes.
-
When
Matt Garth crashes on the flight deck at the end of the movie,
it is actually footage shot during Korea, showing a SB2C
"Helldiver"
striking the ramp before turning into an F9F
"Panther" jet fighter bomber as it explodes.
I
better upload now before this morphs into a Blog, then a WW II
history lesson, and then when we get to May 14th 1948 it turns
into Biblical teaching. |
